Sculpture

In the creative universe of Oswaldo Vigas, sculpture is both a means of expression and a medium of formal investigation. Since the 1970s Vigas had shown an interest in three-dimensionality when using materials such as breadcrumbs, folded cardboard, and papier maché in his paintings. Then, after working in ceramics in the ‘80s, he decided to make sculpture. The passion to mold matter was already awake in him. Imposing sculptures representing mythical and archetypal figures that populate his paintings: la coqueta (the flirt), la centaura (the centaur), and la doncella (the maiden) appear among other goddesses and female figures of enigmatic presence. Contorted baroque forms, organic and free, express the plant and animal syncretism present in the paintings.
